Salary: $26.08 - $32.65 per hour (Per Contract)

Shift: 2:30PM - 10:30PM

Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED or other educational background necessary for position.
  • Experience as a Custodian I or comparable position.
  • Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
Responsibilities
  • Helps in the selection, assignment, scheduling, and training of custodial staff.
  • Plans and oversees maintenance and repair work, maintaining a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency.
  • Maintains an inventory and recommends purchase of suitable supplies, tools and equipment.
  • Consults with Custodial Foreman about staff performance on a regular basis.
  • Strives constantly to promote safety, health, and comfort of students and employees.
  • Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep and repair.
  • Keeps building premises neat and clean at all times, including sidewalks, driveways, play areas.
  • Regulates HVAC systems to provide appropriate temperatures and economy.
  • Shovels, plows, and sands walkways, driveways, parking areas, and steps as appropriate.
  • Checks daily to ensure exit doors are open and working properly during occupancy.
  • Sweeps classrooms daily and dusts furniture.
  • Maintains cleanliness of corridors, toilets, and drinking fountains daily.
  • Washes windows inside and outside at least twice a year, more frequently as needed.
  • Keeps the grounds free from rubbish and performs yard‑keeping chores as required.
  • Commits to minor building repairs and reports major repairs promptly.
  • Maintains scheduled servicing of motors and other mechanical equipment.
  • Reports damage to school property immediately.
  • Stays on premises during school hours and extended hours per authorization.
  • Assumes responsibility for building opening and closing each day.
  • Keeps inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand and requisitions replacements in advance.
  • Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required.
  • Complies with local laws for disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.
  • Manages swimming pool condition, including water tests and cleaning.
  • Performs standardized custodial duties (vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, polishing, painting, etc.).
  • Receives and handles supplies, replaces light bulbs, secures building and equipment.
  • Conducts inspections of fire safety equipment and reports issues.
  • Maintains storerooms in a clean, safe manner and uses supplies economically.
  • Assumes additional functions as determined.
Terms of Employment

Twelve‑month year. Salary and work according to contract with Local 1933.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated according to the Board of Education’s policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
