Under the supervision of the Assistant Head Lifeguards, Head Lifeguards, and Aquatics Director
, Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring the safety of all patrons by actively monitoring and scanning their designated zones to prevent accidents and injuries. Lifeguards must be prepared to recognize and respond to emergencies promptly and effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment throughout the aquatic facility.
  • Use sound judgment to anticipate and prevent unsafe situations

  • Recognize and respond promptly to incidents, injuries, and emergencies
    , providing necessary care including CPR when required.
  • Enforce all facility and departmental rules and regulations consistently.
  • Provide swimming instruction and assist in planning lessons, activities, and games for program participants.
  • Apply strong communication skills and judgment to resolve challenging situations effectively.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and foster positive public relations.
  • Participate in regular in‑service training sessions and maintain physical fitness to perform job‑related tasks.
  • Work a flexible schedule
    , including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Arrive on time, prepared for work
    , and arrange approved substitutes if unable to work scheduled shifts.
  • Report all incidents, accidents, hazards, emergencies, and injuries to supervisors and complete required documentation.
Knowledge
  • Comprehensive understanding of aquatic programs, equipment, and rescue techniques

  • Familiarity with rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Ability to make sound decisions following established policies and procedures
