Position Summary
The Community & Engagement Student Supervisor (Student Services Assistant II) for the MRULE-ICA Program is responsible for leading, educating, and supervising a team of diverse undergraduate student leaders called Intercultural Aides (ICAs) in the Multi-Racial Unity Living Experience-Intercultural Aide (MRULE-ICA) program within Residence Education & Housing Services. The supervisor will promote inclusive communities within the residence halls to achieve institutional learning goals.
CharacteristicDuties & Responsibilities
- Educate and train undergraduate student staff in building inclusive communities and global perspectives, integrating institutional learning goals such as Analytical Thinking, Cultural Understanding, Effective Citizenship, Effective Communication, and Integrative Reasoning.
- Research interdisciplinary materials to design and produce socio‑political‑cultural curriculum for weekly engaged‑learning seminars.
- Supervise undergraduate student staff to ensure professional development through monitoring job performance, educating, advising, and mentoring.
- Collaborate with program staff to strategize initiatives that remain relevant and responsive to changing student needs.
- Work with residence hall and other student support services staff to infuse intercultural competencies into various services and programming.
- Assist with ongoing assessment and contribute to continuous practice improvement.
- Develop collaborative partnerships with university colleagues to plan and implement engaged‑learning opportunities.
- This position requires presence in the assigned neighborhood and on central campus for required meetings and responsibilities.
- Intercultural Aides (ICAs) – to provide supportive coaching and facilitate leadership development.
- Other MRULE‑ICA program supervisors – to coordinate programmatic efforts, solve problems, and share information on hall issues and assessment practices.
- Staff in Residence Life & Housing Services (REHS) – to communicate student concerns, trends, and inclusive climate issues.
- Students – to encourage participation in intercultural events, engaged‑learning opportunities, and student support resources.
- Faculty – to develop and design meaningful global integrated learning opportunities.
- External community partners – to cultivate community service projects and opportunities for students.
The Supervisor will report to the co‑directors of the MRULE‑ICA Program.
Responsibility For The Work Of OthersFirst‑level supervision of Intercultural Aides working in the program.
Responsibility For Health/Safety Of OthersNo assigned responsibility.
Impact on Programs/Services/OperationsProgrammatic efforts and work produced by the ICAs and the program’s professional staff are intended to impact other students’ development of competencies encompassed in institutional learning goals.
Location & Work RequirementsThis position requires a successful candidate to work on‑site and is not eligible for remote work. All positions in RHS are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure or suspension due to emergency conditions, the candidate will be expected to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure or suspension.
Minimum RequirementsKnowledge equivalent to that normally acquired by completing one or two years of postgraduate degree work (e.g., a Master’s in Student Personnel, Social Work, Sociology, or related fields) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired QualificationsOne to three years of supervisory experience preferred; demonstrated experience working with diverse peoples; strong understanding of leadership as service; experience with traditionally aged college students, especially first‑generation/low‑income students; strong interest in learning, education, and self‑reflection; integrity, passion for justice, and creative initiative.
