Cole Academy is Lansing's longest‑standing charter school in the state of Michigan, founded in 1995. We provide a balanced literacy and math curriculum and support all students through MTSS, PBIS, and individualized plans.
Job SummaryWe seek a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Paraprofessional to work closely with students who have diverse learning needs. Under the direction of special education teachers and other staff, you will support students’ academic, social, and communication development in a safe, inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities- Assist teachers with preparation and implementation of instructional materials and classroom activities.
- Help special education teachers implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
- Provide instructional assistance under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
- Offer one‑on‑one and small‑group support across subjects.
- Support students in developing academic, social, and communication skills through targeted interventions.
- Help maintain classroom management and a positive learning environment.
- Monitor student progress and behavior, providing feedback to teachers and staff.
- Supervise students during non‑instructional times such as recess and lunch.
- Communicate effectively with teachers, students, and parents regarding progress and needs.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff to design and implement effective strategies for student success.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and sensitive information.
- Assist in the preparation and delivery of instructional plans.
- Support student assessment.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Supervise multiple students simultaneously.
- Provide instructional assistance in individual or small group settings.
- Maintain a safe and orderly environment for students.
- Participate in continuous professional development.
- Exhibit effective oral and written communication skills.
- Occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds.
- Stand and walk frequently.
- Endure outdoor weather conditions at any time of year.
- Assist or lift students when necessary.
- Tolerate moderate noise levels.
- High school diploma or equivalent;
Associate's or bachelor's degree in education or related field preferred. - Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Collaborative team player.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed.
