Position: Resource Room Teacher (1.0 FTE)

Location: Mac Donald Middle School

Salary: Per ELEA Contract

Work Year: 26/27 School Year

Start Date: Beginning of School Year – August 20, 2026

Reports To: Building Principal and the Director of Special Education

General Summary

In alignment with the established policies and procedures of the East Lansing Public School District, the Resource Room Teacher is responsible for instruction of students diagnosed with varying disabilities. The teacher will focus on collaborations with and provide resources to paraprofessionals, families, volunteers and staff. The duties listed below are not intended to be all-inclusive; rather, they are representative of some of the primary responsibilities associated with this position.

the Role
  • Delivers research-based interventions/curriculum to meet the needs of students.
  • In‑services paraprofessionals, parents, volunteers, and teachers on interventions to accomplish behavioral and academic objectives for students.
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, parents, and building principal to deliver instruction in the most inclusive manner possible while enabling students to be in the least restrictive environment.
  • Maintains data using technology software to keep all progress monitoring current.
  • Remains current with research-based strategies and interventions.
  • Provides information, resources and support to families and building staff regarding student needs.
  • Participates in transitions between buildings and sharing of assessment information between building principals and staff.
  • Maintains an educational environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Implements prescriptive programs within the classroom with consultation of teacher consultants, speech therapists, school psychologists, school social workers, and/or other support personnel.
  • Submits all required reports, data, and documentation in a timely manner.
  • Serves as case‑manager for students with IEPs (coordinate IEP, MET, etc).
  • Attends monthly staff meetings and monthly special education meetings.
  • Identifies and monitors the specific job duties and responsibilities for assigned paraprofessionals to implement in support of student learning.
  • Assumes other responsibilities as assigned by administration.
  • Education, Knowledge and Skills Required
  • Valid Michigan Teacher's Certificate with endorsement in Special Education.
  • Three years successful teaching experience with students eligible for special education services, preferred.
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge and skill of current research in the areas of literacy, mathematics, interventions, assessment, and behavior supports/management.
  • Must occasionally lift items up to 50 lbs. and must be physically able to frequently walk, sit, push/pull, bend, stoop, stand and climb.
