Data Center Associate Engineer​/Information Technologist

The Data Center Facilities Team is responsible for assisting in maintaining several mission-critical facilities geographically distributed across the East Lansing campus for MSU Information Technology (MSU IT).

Reporting to the Data Center Facilities Manager, the Data Center Engineer I will primarily perform the following duties:

• Capacity Planning & Management – Ensure adequate resources are available to support customer installations (power, network, future expansion, etc.)
• Facility Maintenance & Management – Work collaboratively with Infrastructure teams and vendors to coordinate maintenance of power, cooling, security, and network resources.
• Hardware Installation and Configuration – Physically install and decommission servers, PDUs, network, and other data center hardware.
• Documentation – Maintain exceptional accuracy of DCIM software, procedures, and policies.
• Asset Management – Assist in auditing MSU IT and data center customer assets.
• Incident and Request Response – Monitor ticketing system and provide response in a timely manner.

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology Data Center Engineering area related to the duties to be performed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Ability to identify and resolve problems by exercising excellent judgment
• The ability to clearly and concisely communicate both orally and in writing
• Data Center related certifications such as: RCDD, CDCMP, CDCDP
• Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. of hardware (i.e., Servers, Switches, etc.)
• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously to meet deadlines
• Support knowledge of Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) monitoring tools
