Position Summary

The Associate Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life serves as a leadership partner to the Director and helps advance the success of a fraternity and sorority community of over 5,000 students in 58 recognized organizations. The position provides operational oversight and programmatic leadership to create a safe, inclusive, student‑centered fraternity and sorority experience aligned with university values and national organizational standards.

Key Responsibilities Leadership & Administration
  • Supports the Director in providing overall administrative leadership for Fraternity & Sorority Life, ensuring alignment with university priorities and national organization expectations.
  • Oversees major community-wide processes, including recruitment, new member education, expansion/extension, and chartering/recognition.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with chapter advisors, alumni/ae corporations, national headquarters partners, and university stakeholders.
  • Contributes to departmental strategic planning and operational decision-making.
Staff Supervision & Development
  • Hires, trains, supervises, schedules, and evaluates full‑time staff and student employees.
  • Maintains personnel records and processes payroll, ePARs, and hiring documentation according to established procedures.
  • Fosters a productive work environment grounded in collaboration, professional excellence, inclusiveness, and mutual respect.
  • Provides coaching, performance feedback, and ongoing professional development opportunities.
Risk Prevention, Conduct Liaison, & Accountability
  • Serves as the department’s primary liaison to the Office of Student Support and Accountability and other compliance partners.
  • Coordinates fraternity and sorority conduct, risk, and accountability processes; supports the university’s student organization accountability system.
  • Develops and implements harm‑reduction, health & safety, and prevention education initiatives for the community.
  • Advise stakeholders on relevant university, national headquarters, and council policies.
  • Develops strategies to address unrecognized or high‑risk organizations.
Fraternity & Sorority Group Housing
  • Manages the recognized fraternity and sorority group housing process, including roster management, occupancy, compliance, and training.
  • Coordinates with campus partners and external stakeholders to support group housing and the second‑year exemption process.
  • Ensures adherence to university expectations, health and safety requirements, and risk management protocols.
Educational & Leadership Development Programming
  • Develops and implements educational, developmental, and leadership programs that support student learning and community wellbeing.
  • Creates prevention, risk management, belonging, and leadership education initiatives tailored to the FSL community.
  • Provides support for Order of Omega and other recognition and leadership programs.
Assessment, Budget, & Administrative Support
  • Assists the Director in designing and implementing assessment strategies to measure learning outcomes, program effectiveness, and community trends.
  • Contributes to budgeting processes, including resource allocation, monitoring, and evaluation of fiscal needs.
  • Manages digital communications, website maintenance, and marketing efforts—using platforms such as Be Involved—to promote programs and disseminate information.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and policies related to fraternities and sororities and risk management.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative partnerships across Student Affairs, Residential Education and Housing Services, Inclusive Access and Belonging, Prevention Outreach and Education, University Health and Wellbeing, Police and Public Safety, City of East Lansing, and other relevant units.
  • Represents the department on committees, work groups, and university initiatives.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities, retreats, trainings, and community‑specific continuing education.
  • This position offers occasional hybrid flexibility based on departmental needs.
