Research Assistant II

The Plebanek Laboratory focuses on investigating how dendritic cells and macrophages impact anti-tumor immunity and tumor progression. Towards this end, we use a wide array of molecular biology and functional genomic approaches to identify potential points of intervention to prevent immune dysfunction.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will assist in coordinating laboratory studies, executing experiments, and analyzing data for the various research projects within the laboratory. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining laboratory records and documentation, as well as writing and optimizing experimental protocols.

Other Responsibilities may include:
Ordering laboratory reagents Assisting in murine colony management Maintaining laboratory equipment Training new laboratory members Communicating data with laboratory members and supervisors

As a part of the MSU community, there will be numerous opportunities to present research as well as participate in continuing education and professional development.

Position Summary:

The position is located in East Lansing, Michigan, United States. It is a full-time (90-100%) position under the group Administrative Professionals- AP, and is unionized.

Minimum Requirements:

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Tumor immunology and cancer biology; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in overseeing research projects and laboratory operations, operating and maintaining a variety of laboratory equipment, performing specialized and difficult analytical and research techniques, and designing research experiments in an area related to research being performed;

or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired

Qualifications:

Four-year college degree in a related field; 3+ years of laboratory experience and/or MS in a related field is desired but not required.

Preferred qualifications:

Interest in tumor immunology, independent experience in a molecular biology research lab, excellent written and verbal communication skills, some experience using multi-parameter flow cytometry, some experience working with murine models.
