This job posting will be open for not less than two (2) weeks and, if needed, will remain open until a finalist has been selected.

General Description

Professional work involving tax collections, answering inquiries, performing diversified receiving, recording, balancing and reconciling of receipts in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws, federal law, town rules and regulations. Performs all other related or similar duties as required.

Primary Essential Functions

The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustration of the various types of work that may be performed.   • Assist in the water/sewer billing, while working closely with DPW and printing vendors to make sure bills are created and mailed in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for the water/sewer collections, including the posting of daily receipts while balancing to the cash sheet, maintaining billing data received from the DPW and preparing breakdown for each water/sewer district.
  • Responsible for sending delinquent letters and coordinating the water shut‑off program, while working closely with DPW to schedule shutting the water off/on.
  • Process the Municipal Lien Certificates in a timely manner.
  • Balance cash and receipts for Miscellaneous Receipts and turnovers/deposits from other departments.
  • Work with the department head to monitor budget; prepare weekly bills, utilize spreadsheets to record and summarize departmental expenses and prepare monthly reports and year end reports.
  • Maintain office supply inventory.
  • Process and sort incoming department mail/payments.
  • Back up to fellow staff in the Collector/Treasurers office which can include but not limited to; the posting of various payments, online payments, lockbox and other similar office tasks.
  • Respond to various inquiries regarding water/sewer and tax information. Researching records to obtain requested information for other departments, banks, attorneys, real estate agents and residents.
  • Provide counter, phone coverage and assistance to the Collector/Treasure as needed.
Education and Experience

Associate’s Degree or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school; and two years related experience and/or training. Candidates with any equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating ability to perform above duties will be considered.

In addition to education and experience, this position requires excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office products, an ability to organize and prioritize workload, multi‑task, and the ability to work effectively in a busy organizational environment.

Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers and office software applications, including spreadsheet applications and Google Suite.

Experience with MUNIS Software System and knowledge of Massachusetts General Laws preferred.
