Registered Nurse; RN; General Surgery

Role Overview:

This position is for a Registered Nurse providing high-quality, patient-centered care in a surgical or labor and delivery setting. The nurse collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, assesses patient needs, and implements individualized care plans. They communicate effectively, respond quickly to changes in patient conditions, and promote safe, age-appropriate care.

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural aspects.
• Collaborate with surgical teams to develop and evaluate care plans.
• Administer medications safely, following policies and age-specific considerations.
• Follow safety protocols for patient identification, surgical procedures, and time-outs.
• Document care and patient responses accurately and promptly.
• Maintain aseptic techniques and communicate effectively with surgical staff.
• Prepare operating rooms with necessary supplies and assist with specimen handling.
• Demonstrate flexibility, critical thinking, and autonomous practice in high-stress environments.
• Provide age-appropriate care, interpreting patient data to meet individual needs.
• Serve as a professional role model, mentor colleagues, and pursue ongoing development.

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program with a current Connecticut RN license.
• CPR certification required at hire.
• Previous experience in surgical or labor and delivery, particularly assisting with C-sections.
• Effective communication skills, basic computer proficiency, and knowledge of medication safety and aseptic techniques.
• Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and demonstrate sound judgment.
