We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Speech Language Pathologist - NYU Langone Ambulatory Care East Meadow - Part Time.
In this role, the successful candidate assesses, provides, and documents speech, language, cognitive, dysphagia, and related services to adult outpatient populations with various neurological impairments. Evaluates, re-evaluates, plans, and implements highly skilled treatment plans tailored to meet the needs of each individual patient.
Job Responsibilities- Perform speech, language, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), cognitive, and clinical swallow evaluations in an outpatient facility serving neurologically impaired adults and teens.
- Utilize standardized assessment tools appropriately.
- Develop comprehensive treatment plans and effectively implement intervention.
- Provide education and counseling to patients and caregivers to facilitate effective carry-over to the home environment.
- Ensure completion of patient records and other documentation according to federal, state, and facility standards and regulations.
- Participate in patient care conferences, committees, orientation, community education projects, and in-service education. Communicate with physicians and other health care providers to offer coordinated and comprehensive care.
- Act as a resource and advocate for those with communication and other related difficulties.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Actively keep abreast of and use current trends and research-based evidence in speech language pathology.
- Maintain and continue to build upon professional competency through education and annual review. Share and convey professional knowledge with colleagues as appropriate.
- Mentor graduate clinicians in accordance with federal, state, American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and university guidelines. Maintain a positive learning environment for students. Provide teaching and constructive feedback that transitions students to increasing levels of competence.
- Participate in and conduct research as approved by the NYU Langone Health Institutional Review Board (IRB) committee.
- Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
- Current and valid New York State License in Speech-Language Pathology.
- ASHA certification in Speech-Language Pathology.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers.
- 1-2 years of Speech-Language Pathology in a medically related environment with experience in communication, cognition, assistive, and augmentative communication disorders and dysphagia.
- 1-2 years of experience with Modified Barium Swallow Test (MBS) or Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing with Sensory Testing (FEEST) and ventilator-dependent patients.
- Strong communication (both oral and written), counseling, customer service, problem-solving, planning, organization, and multitasking skills.
- Ability to mentor and train graduate students in speech-language pathology.
- Specific clinical skills related to evaluating, testing, therapy and counseling for those with speech/language, swallowing and related disorders.
- Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
- Required Licenses:
Speech Pathologist Lic-NYS, ASHA Cert.
- Experience in a neuro‑outpatient facility.
