We have an incredible opportunity for a LEAD IP/Transport Engineer to join our team. This position is responsible for leading the end-to-end design, integration, and technical governance of the active part of the fiber network, from OLT and access architecture through transport/backhaul to Internet peering, interconnection, and integration with OSS/BSS, system of record, and security infrastructure.
This position will work closely with Internal Engineering resources, Network Equipment Provider and Partners to ensure schedules and budgets are met while working in a fast-paced environment.
- Own the end-to-end technical architecture of the access and core fiber network, from OLT and access design through transport/backhaul to Internet peering and interconnection.
- Collaborate with equipment vendors, fiber providers, and internal teams to select solutions that balance performance, scalability, cost, and deployment timelines.
- Define and maintain backhaul, IP, security engineering standards, design guidelines, and workflows to ensure consistency and efficiency across multiple markets.
- Define and support integration with security infrastructure, including firewalls, segmentation, and access control aligned with network architecture.
- Support the planning, procurement, and deployment of network infrastructure including OLTs, aggregation layers, transport links, core network and POP facilities.
- Oversee and select backhaul options, network aggregation points, redundancy scenarios to meet SLAs
- Manage end-to-end capacity planning for the network.
- Lead the design and validation of FTTH access and core network architecture, including OLT placement, backhaul rings, aggregation points, MPLS core, uplink capacity, and integration with backbone and peering infrastructure.
- Provide technical oversight of outsourced OSP engineering to ensure alignment with network architecture, capacity requirements, and long-term scalability
- Act as the primary technical point of contact with external stakeholders for backhaul, tie-points, network interconnection and capacity planning.
- Support the planning, procurement, and deployment of network infrastructure including OLTs, aggregation layers, transport links, and POP facilities.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams including NOC, OSP engineering and construction and program management to ensure alignment between design, deployment, and operations.
- Establish and monitor key metrics related to network performance, capacity utilization, and design quality to drive continuous improvement.
- Anticipate technical risks and deployment constraints and develop practical solutions to avoid delays or redesigns.
- Ensure that all network designs meet high standards for reliability, redundancy, security, and operational sustainability.
- BS in Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field
- 3+ years experience with Vetro
- 10+ years of experience in telecom or service provider network engineering, with exposure to fiber-based networks.
- Solid understanding of Passive Optical Network architectures (GPON / XGS-PON) and their integration with transport and core networks.
- Working knowledge of IP networking fundamentals, including routing, switching, and basic capacity planning.
- Experience working with external vendors, carriers, or partners in a technical or coordination capacity.
- Ability to manage multiple initiatives across different markets while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound technical decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate across engineering, operations, and business teams.
