Job Title
GIS Mapping Technician

Responsibilities- Record or produce information related to the construction, operation, and maintenance of utility systems.
- Maintain the GIS connected model with data from various sources such as work management systems, as-built construction drawings, work orders, completion records, field reports, and other job sponsor information.
- Perform analysis or queries to assemble data and prepare reports, tabulations, charts, and maps from asset information contained in the GIS model and other data sources.
- Produce standard prints and ad‑hoc plots for field requests containing specific information derived from the GIS model and other data sources.
- Maintain service point data and its relationship to feeding source transformer.
- Track lifespan of utility asset data, including history, inspection records, and attachments.
- Resolve conflicting data, mapping, connectivity, and land issues through office or field investigation.
- Perform GIS work for major projects such as facility relocations, load rearrangement, and new business development.
- Operate automated office equipment such as printers, plotters, duplication machines, facsimile, and scanners.
- File records and data pertaining to the work.
- Perform manual or computer‑aided drafting.
- Operate a car or light truck.
- Assist other employees in plant work, field work, or office work.
- Perform other similar skilled work as required.
- 1–2 years of GIS experience (school or work related).
- Ability to acquire a thorough working knowledge of the company's business applications, material, equipment, and apparatus used in the work.
- Knowledge of utilities' transmission and distribution systems.
- Familiarity with various operating and maintenance handbooks and manuals, including safety rules and practices.
- Ability to work at various client locations based on business needs and workload.
- Valid driver's license to operate motor vehicles in New Jersey.
- Computer skills in MS Office and other Windows applications.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD or Micro Station is a plus, but must have GIS skills.
- Basic ability to use a personal vehicle for field work (minimal mileage).
Primarily work on the electric side of the GIS model. 5–10% field work. Works in a union environment reporting to a supervisor. Job may include bonuses or other incentives based on experience and local market.
