Job Summary

The Stroke and Neurosurgical Program Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating all aspects of the hospital’s stroke and neurosurgical programs. This role ensures compliance with regulatory and licensure requirements, oversees staff training, and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) to enhance patient outcomes. The coordinator will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to establish best practices in stroke and neurosurgical care, drive quality improvement initiatives, and report program metrics to hospital leadership.

The ideal candidate will analyze organizational processes, identify areas for improvement, and implement quality assurance measures to ensure patient care and operational efficiency related to the stroke and neurosurgery program. Duties of the role require educating, assessment or investigation, documentation of findings, aggregation of data, preparation of reports for meetings.

Essential Functions Clinical Training & Education
  • Design and implement training programs for nursing staff on post-operative and critical care management of neurosurgical and stroke patients.
  • Serve as a resource and educator for best practices in neurosurgical ICU care.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary education and simulation training to improve patient outcomes.
Program Development & Compliance
  • Lead the establishment and maintenance of the hospital’s stroke and neurosurgical programs, ensuring compliance with all state and national regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Develop policies, procedures, and protocols to enhance patient care and safety.
  • Oversee adherence to guidelines set by The Joint Commission, American Heart Association (AHA), and other regulatory bodies.
Quality Improvement & Performance Metrics
  • Develop and track KPIs to evaluate the effectiveness of the stroke and neurosurgical programs.
  • Analyze data and trends to drive evidence-based improvements in patient care.
  • Present performance reports and recommendations to hospital leadership on a regular basis.
Collaboration & Patient Care Coordination
  • Bedside support of nursing staff to ensure appropriacy of clinical management and documentation.
  • Work closely with neurosurgeons, neurologists, intensivists, and nursing teams to optimize care pathways for stroke and neurosurgical patients.
  • Act as a liaison between departments to improve care coordination and streamline patient transitions.
  • Participate in case reviews, morbidity and mortality conferences, and quality improvement meetings.
Functional/Technical Skills Requirements
  • Comprehensive understanding of operational health care delivery systems and the current health care landscape. Proficient skills and experience with developing and educating on policy and procedures.
  • Analytics and Strategy:
    Expertise in developing and executing data-driven approaches to enhancing business decision-making and improving operational performance (preferably in healthcare). Advanced knowledge of business intelligence best practices, familiarity with fact-based management tools and techniques to drive strategies and a continuous improvement culture.
  • Communications:
    Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Ability to take abstract, complex and/or technical information and effectively convey the message for a variety of audiences at their level of comprehension.

    Proficient in use of health care technology. Skilled in technology-based operational improvement: auditing, data aggregation, monitoring. Proficiency in Microsoft Applications:
    Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook required.
Minimum Education /Certification
  • Registered Nurse: BSN degree required
  • Master's degree in healthcare preferred
  • CCRN certification preferred
Minimum Work Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in neurosurgical ICU care
  • Project Coordination / Project Management experience preferred.
