Job Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Duties
  • Screening and Assessment:
    Complete a psychosocial assessment within the first three sessions, identify problem areas and veteran goals, and determine a diagnosis for appropriate referral.
  • Treatment Planning & Goal Setting:
    Develop an individualized treatment plan, document progress notes, and annually review and update treatment goals.
  • Crisis Intervention:
    Assess potential harm to self or others and utilize emergency services when appropriate.
  • Psychotherapy:
    Provide evidence‑based individual and group counseling techniques, skill‑building training, and psychoeducation, including treatment for veterans with Military Sexual Trauma (MST).
  • Administrative Duties:
    Comply with VHA regulations, maintain accurate clinical documentation per VANJ policies, and establish effective working relationships with colleagues and community partners.
  • Committee Participation & Professional Development:
    Serve on medical center, health system, VISN, and/or national VA committees or task forces; participate in psychology privileging, educational, and peer‑review activities; act as a non‑voting member of the medical staff.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
    Perform other discipline‑specific duties as assigned by the service manager.

Requirements

You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing‑designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment; refusal will result in denial of employment. Must be proficient in written and spoken English, be subject to background/security investigation, and pass a pre‑employment physical examination.

Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is required. As a condition of employment, you will be required to serve a 1‑ or 2‑year trial period during which we will evaluate your fitness and whether continued employment advances the public interest. Upon completion of the trial period, employment will be terminated unless certification is received that it advances the public interest.
