About This OpportunityWe are seeking qualified Sterile Processing Technicians to serve Veterans at the East Orange VA Medical Center on a full-time federal contract beginning August 1, 2026. This is a stable, long-term opportunity — base year plus up to 4 option years (potential 5-year engagement).
Available Shifts & Pay Rates- Tour 1 (Day) 7:30 AM — 4:00 PM Mon–Fri | $27.00–$28.00/hr
- Tour 2 (Evening) 11:00 AM — 7:30 PM Mon–Fri | $28.50–$29.50/hr
- Tour 3 (Night) 3:30 PM — 12:00 AM Mon–Fri | $29.50–$31.00/hr
Pay is based on certification level and years of experience. Evening and night shift differentials are included in the rates above.
What You’ll Do- Decontaminate, inspect, assemble, and sterilize reusable medical equipment (RME)
- Operate sterilization equipment:
Steam, Sterrad, VPRO, Medivator, Trophon, and Cidex OPA - Perform biological and chemical testing, Bowie-Dick tests, and complete QA documentation
- Support surgical specialties including General, GYN, Ortho, ENT, Urology, Vascular, Dental, Robotics, and Podiatry
- Track instruments using the Censitrac instrument tracking system
- Follow manufacturer IFUs for flexible endoscopes and all RME
- Maintain infection control standards and OSHA safety protocols at all times
- Participate in quarterly quality improvement meetings and complete annual VA TMS training modules
Must meet ONE of the following:
- CRCST certification through HSPA (strongly preferred)
- Graduate of a recognized CRCST or SPT program with 2 years of SPS experience
- VA Level 1 certification with 2 years SPS experience (Level 1 must be completed within 90 days of start)
- 5 years of verifiable hands‑on SPS experience (non-certified pathway)
All candidates must also meet the following requirements:
- Ability to read, speak, understand, and write English fluently
- Valid driver’s license (occasional travel to other VA sites may be required)
- Ability to pass a federal background investigation (NACI)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Up‑to‑date immunization records: TB/IGRA test, MMR, Varicella, Tdap, Influenza, COVID-19
- Clear OIG LEIE exclusion screening
- Willingness to complete all required VA mandatory training modules annually
- Full‑cycle sterile processing: decontamination → inspection → assembly → sterilization → distribution
- In‑depth knowledge of aseptic technique, microbiology principles, and HLD/sterilization chemistry
- Proficiency with autoclave operation including Bowie‑Dick testing and biological indicator interpretation
- Experience identifying, assembling, and handling surgical instruments across multiple specialty sets
- Familiarity with infection control procedures, PPE requirements, and OSHA blood borne pathogen standards
- Ability to operate instrument tracking software (Censitrac experience a plus)
- Physical stamina: extended standing, lifting, pushing carts; ability to work in hot, humid, loud environments in PPE
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and handle high‑pressure, time‑sensitive situations
- Tour 1 (Day): $27.00–$28.00/hr
- Tour 2 (Evening): $28.50–$29.50/hr — includes evening shift differential
- Tour 3 (Night): $29.50–$31.00/hr — includes night shift differential
- Stable federal contract — base year up to 4 annual option years
- Monday–Friday only — no weekend requirement, no federal holiday obligation
