Role Overview

The Open Data analytics team is looking for an experienced engineer to join the Spark engines team. The team builds and optimizes Spark engines on AWS using services such as EMR, Glue, and Athena, and modifies open‑source engines for performance, scalability, and enterprise features.

Key Responsibilities
  • Hands‑on development using AI
  • Design and develop solutions to improve Spark engine delivery
  • Design and develop improvements to the AWS Runtime for Spark’s integration with other AWS services
  • Manage complex deliverables, projects, and research projects with deadlines
  • Ensure data consistency and durability with breakthrough performance and scalability
  • Interact and partner with the open source community
Basic Qualifications
  • 3+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non‑internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 1+ year of software development engineer or related occupational experience
  • 1+ year of designing and developing large‑scale, multi‑tiered, multi‑threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using C#, C++, Java, or Perl
  • 1+ year of Object Oriented Design experience
  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience (coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations)
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
