We are searching for a Software Development Manager with passion for building large-scale database systems optimized for efficient query processing and ease to use. Amazon Redshift is a rapidly growing, fully managed, petabyte-scale data warehouse service in the cloud, enabling customers to dramatically increase their query performance when analyzing virtually any size data set using the same SQL-based business intelligence tools they use today. At the core of the Redshift data warehouse is the team responsible for building the most intelligent and performant query execution engine.

This team uses data from our service deployment to determine and deliver high-value projects, including novel query execution techniques for leading industry query performance.

• Take overall responsibility for growing and leading a database software development team, rethinking assumptions behind traditional databases to build a cloud database service.
• Shape a culture of innovation and serve your team of engineers so they can reach their full potential and grow.
• Mentor a talented and experienced team, complete hands‑on technical work, and provide leadership on complex technical issues, design tradeoffs, and feature and schedule prioritization.
• Work with senior executives to develop business targets and resource requirements, influencing technical and business strategy.
• Define groundbreaking products and hire and lead a team.

• Work on the latest technology, constantly integrating research concepts into Redshift.

• Contribute to AWS's extensive service portfolio, impacting thousands of Redshift customers.

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience
• 7+ years of engineering experience
• 8+ years leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and operations.

• Experience communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe product features, technical designs, and product strategy.
• Experience recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching, and managing teams of software engineers.
• Master’s degree or above in computer science, computer engineering, or related field, or PhD.
• Experience leading and influencing teams or organizations, and contributing to architecture and design (patterns, reliability, scaling) of new and existing systems.
