Overview
Our client is seeking a skilled and proactive Wireless Network Engineer to join their IT Infrastructure team. This role is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and support of enterprise‑grade wireless LAN (WLAN) systems across their facilities. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience with Cisco wireless technologies, strong troubleshooting skills, and a collaborative mindset to work with internal teams and external vendors.
Key Responsibilities- WLAN Operations & Support
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve WLAN hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
- Provide off‑hours and weekend support as part of an on‑call rotation (approximately 1 week every 8 weeks).
- Respond to escalated wireless network incidents and service requests.
- Design & Implementation
- Implement and optimize WLAN designs based on business requirements and site surveys.
- Collaborate with the broader WLAN team to develop and refine deployment and support processes.
- Infrastructure Integration
- Work closely with business units and vendors to integrate wireless infrastructure with enterprise systems.
- Participate in integrated testing and user acceptance for new wireless deployments and upgrades.
- Administration & Maintenance
- Maintain and administer wireless network hardware, software, and configurations.
- Monitor performance and ensure compliance with security and operational standards.
- Automation & Scripting
- Leverage automation tools and scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible) to streamline network management tasks.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 3–6 years of progressively responsible experience in IT infrastructure or network engineering.
- Strong knowledge of WLAN configuration commands, protocols, and hardware components.
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or equivalent certification.
- Experience supporting medium to large enterprise environments.
- Familiarity with wireless site survey tools and performance monitoring platforms.
- Proficiency in automation and scripting for network tasks.
- Cisco Certified Wireless Specialist (CCWS) or higher‑level certifications.
- Experience with Cisco DNA Center, Meraki, or similar wireless management platforms.
- Knowledge of RF fundamentals and wireless security protocols.
- Experience with network monitoring tools such as Solar Winds, Net Scout, or Ekahau.
This is a contract position based out of East Peoria, IL.
Pay & Benefits- Pay range: $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
