Automation Support Technician

The Automation Support Technician serves as the primary operational support resource for automated equipment, robotics systems, and automation-related software applications in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role focuses on troubleshooting, system health monitoring, preventative maintenance, user support, issue escalation, and communication between operations and technical support teams. As the first line of support for automation-related issues, the Automation Support Technician plays a key role in sustaining daily operations and contributing to the organization's growing automation strategy.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the daily operation of automated equipment, robotics systems, and technology platforms within the manufacturing facility.
  • Troubleshoot equipment, software, and process-related issues to quickly restore normal operations.
  • Respond to operational disruptions, diagnose root causes, and coordinate resolution activities with appropriate stakeholders.
  • Monitor system performance and health, identifying opportunities for improvement and optimization.
  • Execute preventative maintenance activities and conduct routine inspections on automation and material handling systems.
  • Document issues, corrective actions, maintenance activities, and system updates in a clear and timely manner.
  • Support the deployment, testing, and adoption of new automation technologies and industrial software applications.
  • Train and assist end users on system functionality, operating procedures, and best practices for automated equipment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, and Technology, to improve overall system reliability and performance.
  • Provide excellent customer support to internal users, ensuring clear communication and follow-up on technical issues.
  • Work hands-on on the production floor to support automated systems, autonomous vehicles, conveyors, and other material handling equipment.
  • Participate in shift-based support activities, providing timely responses to issues across multiple shifts as needed.

Essential

Skills:

  • Proven experience troubleshooting industrial equipment, manufacturing systems, automation technologies, or technical applications.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand and work with complex machinery and material handling systems.
  • Solid technical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve equipment and software issues efficiently.
  • Comfort working with robotics, electrical systems, automation platforms, PLC troubleshooting, and industrial maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing and production environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with a strong customer support mindset when interacting with operations and technical teams.
  • Proficiency using computers, industrial software applications, and mobile technology to monitor systems and document work.
  • Demonstrated desire to learn new technologies and support innovative manufacturing and Industry 4.0 solutions.

Additional Skills &

Qualifications:

  • Experience with robotics and automation systems, including AMRs, AGVs, conveyors, and other material handling equipment.
  • Background in manufacturing operations, industrial maintenance, logistics, or engineering environments.
  • Exposure to material handling equipment and automated production processes.
  • Experience providing technical support or field service for industrial or automation systems.
  • Experience supporting industrial software applications and digital manufacturing tools.
  • Technical certifications or vocational training in automation, robotics, industrial maintenance, electrical systems, or related disciplines.
  • Familiarity with digital operations concepts and Industry 4.0 technologies.
  • Interest in growing into roles focused on automation, manufacturing technology, digital operations, or technical leadership.

Work Environment:
