In Fulton County (Atlanta) Schools (FCS), Latin is an important part of the World Languages Department. There are 10 Latin teachers across middle and high school who collaborate regularly to support the district team.
FCS middle school students take either year‑long or connections (9‑18 weeks) world languages courses, depending on their success on the state's standardized Reading test. Students who pass this test in Grade 5 may begin year‑long WL class in Grade 6, then have three years to master the standards for level 1.
All nineteen middle schools offer French and Spanish. Select middle schools offer one or more additional of the eight total languages offered in the district. WL connections students take Reading as their 5th year‑long core course but have exposure to WL via connections. Connections curriculum is district‑created and focuses on culture and mythology, with some reading and translation. Year‑long Latin courses use Cambridge Latin Course 5e.
Teachers and students have access to digital and hard copy CLC resources. FCS is a one‑to‑one Microsoft district using Canvas and Teams.
Woodland MS has just added Latin this school year to serve as a feeder to the high school Latin program. Principal Wallace is looking for a teacher for 7th grade Latin connections classes. The ideal candidate will possess strong instructional and interpersonal skills, develop positive relationships with students, and deliver fun, engaging lessons around content with which students can connect.
Contact Ms. Wallace for an interview at 470‑254‑2182. For more information on the Latin program, contact Ms. Jamie Patterson, World Languages Coordinator at 470‑254‑4931 or patterson.
