Overview
This position is responsible for preventative maintenance and repairs of mechanical, electrical and instrumentation equipment at the water treatment plant.
Responsibilities- Works with staff, vendors and contractors for proper maintenance of mechanical facilities, electrical and electronic equipment, SCADA systems, chemical/process controls, environmental lab and related equipment in water supply, treatment and distribution divisions.
- Performs preventative maintenance, replaces parts and makes necessary repairs on ozone generators, super pulsar clarifiers, GAC filters, liquid oxygen system, booster pumps, sludge pumps, sump pumps, hydraulic pumps, flocculators, chemical and line feed systems, gear reducers, vent fan motors, vacuum lines, dehumidifiers, blowers, generators and other related equipment.
- Troubleshoots and repairs telemetry computers, malfunctioning electrical, electronic, mechanical and hydraulic systems and low and medium voltage electric systems; assists licensed electricians with high voltage electrical work.
- Coordinates and participates in daily staff work with plant operations, electrical, instrumentation and control maintenance groups for efficient maintenance/repairs at the water plant, water tanks, pump stations and remote site throughout Fulton and Douglas counties.
- Works with other City personnel and contractors to coordinate new construction/installation/modification of water production facilities, water storage tanks, pump stations and pressure monitoring stations including attending meetings, submitting code regulations and overseeing and monitoring mechanical aspects.
- Provides 24 hour on-call emergency duty and may act in supervisor’s absence.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Associate’s degree or technical coursework in mechanical engineering, electrical, hydraulics or related field; and five (5) years related progressively responsible experience; must possess a valid State of Georgia Driver’s license; equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge Required by the Position- Knowledge of City departmental policies and procedures;
- Knowledge of water supply, treatment, distribution, facility operations and maintenance procedures;
- Knowledge of City purchasing procedures and bid processes;
- Knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, hazards and safety practices of the mechanical trade;
- Knowledge of City plumbing codes;
- Knowledge of the National Electrical Code;
- Knowledge of EPD rules of safe drinking water;
- Knowledge of computer/telemetry systems and motor control systems;
- Knowledge of CMMS software applications;
- Knowledge of Allen Bradley control modules;
- Skill in reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches and manuals;
- Skill in supervisory techniques and oral/written communication;
- Skill in operating various tools;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, contractors and vendors;
- Ability to plan, organize and delegate work.
The Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. Completed work is reviewed for accuracy and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GuidelinesGuidelines include City and departmental policies and procedures, standard operating procedures, and EPD regulations, state and federal laws, CMMS program and O & M manual.
ComplexityThe work consists of a variety of administrative and technical duties related to replacing, repairing, and maintaining equipment in water filter plants.
Scope and EffectThe purpose of this position is to maintain water production facilities, storage tanks, pumping stations and related equipment.

Physical DemandsThe work is typically performed with the employee sitting, standing, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee must occasionally lift light or heavy objects, climb ladders, enter confined spaces and use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
Work EnvironmentThe employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, irritating chemicals, and occasional inclement weather. The work may require the use of protective devices such as gloves, masks, goggles and protective clothing.
