The purpose of this position is to coordinate, develop and maintain GIS data and applications to ensure data availability and data quality for consumption across multiple departments. GIS Coordinator will be responsible for maintaining GIS basemap information and ArcGIS online maps, producing complex GIS products and analysis, customizing data for integration with other systems, managing GIS related projects, and supporting City staff who use GIS applications.

Responsibilities
  • Develop GIS data to create information products, generate ad-hoc maps and reports to meet specific business needs of the City or its contractors;
  • Maintain key datasets including addresses, parcels, roads and City assets as well as all other existing and future datasets;
  • GIS data conversion/geoprocessing;
  • Prepare project plans, directing vendors (consultants) and internal project teams to accomplish plan tasks in order to meet user requirements;
  • Develop, maintain and update databases;
  • Identify, analyze and solve system problems;
  • Maintain, develop, implement, and improve GIS standards, policies and procedures;
  • Provide GIS training to City staff as necessary;
  • Coordinate with and transfer data to and from necessary external entities;
  • Develop new applications and train others in the use of these applications;
  • Manage, or assist in the management of the City's GIS software licenses;
  • Coordinate, or assist in the acquisition of new spatial data and supervise the integration of these data into the City's GIS;
  • Establish, document and manage quality control procedures;
  • Design develop, test document and certify applications, programs and system functionality;
    Asset Management Systems Integration;
  • Applications development and implementation;
  • Design and implement training plans;
  • Capture GIS data in different formats using GPS, smartphones, tablets, etc.;
  • Perform GIS data quality control, including reviewing data for completeness and accuracy identifying and correcting errors or omissions in the data;
  • Catalog and inventory GIS data, including metadata creation;
  • Provide support services for City-provided GIS software and systems.
Qualifications

Graduation for a 4-year college or university with a degree in geography, surveying, computer science, urban planning or related; GISP or other related industry certifications preferred; 2-5 years experience with asset management systems such as Cityworks/Freeance Mobile, iWorQ, Sun Gard or other systems; and diagnosing and troubleshooting GIS and related software problems. GIS technical and cartographic skills required;

Strong writing and oral communication skills;

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, contractors, City officials and the general public; and

Ability to create and implement new and innovation ideas to help build a "smart" city.
