We are looking for a hard‑working, reliable and safety‑minded individual to join our team as a Skid Steer Operator. Operates a straight or articulated rubber‑tired tractor‑type vehicle equipped with a front‑mounted hydraulically powered bucket or forks to lift & transport bulk materials to & from storage or processing areas, to feed conveyors, hoppers, or chutes, and to load trucks or railcars.
This position will work outside in varying weather conditions, and SA Recycling strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
- Use safe work habits at all times.
- Operate gasoline- or electric‑powered trucks, cars, or tractors to transport materials between loading, processing, and storage areas.
- Operate lifting devices such as forklifts, lift beams, swivel‑hooks, hoists, and elevating platforms to load, unload, transport, and stack material.
- Position lifting devices under, over, or around loaded pallets, skids, and boxes, and secure material or products for transport to designated areas.
- Manually load or unload materials onto or off pallets, skids, platforms, cars, or lifting devices.
- Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and auxiliary equipment, including cleaning, lubricating, recharging batteries, fueling, or replacing liquefied‑gas tanks.
- Weigh materials or products and record weight and other production data on tags or labels.
- Signal workers to discharge, dump, or level materials.
- Hook tow trucks to trailer hitches and fasten attachments such as graders, plows, rollers, and winch cables to tractors using hitch pins.
- Previous industrial truck operation experience.
- Compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and SA Recycling safety, health, and environmental regulations.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Must pass a physical exam.
- Must pass a drug screen.
- Must pass a background check.
- Active listening: giving full attention to what others are saying, asking questions as appropriate.
- Reading comprehension: understanding written sentences and paragraphs.
- Equipment maintenance: performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
- Operation and control: controlling equipment or systems.
- Operation monitoring: watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure machines are working properly.
- Critical thinking: using logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
- Time management: managing one’s own time.
- Bi‑lingual (English & Spanish) language skills a plus.
