SA Recycling Mobile Equipment Forklift Operator

The main goal is to move material where it is needed. Forklift operators load and unload scrap metal from flatbed trucks, operating outdoors in all weather.

• Unload and load flatbed trucks hauling scrap metal.
• Inspect and determine metal grade for inventory tracking.
• Perform daily operation and safety inspection.
• Communicate with office and truck drivers to determine commodities to load.
• Move scrap metal boxes around the yard.
• Work with customers to satisfy their needs and assist them when problems arise.
• Collaborate with other employees in the scrap metal yard to ensure a safe working environment.
• Move sensitive cargo such as propane tanks from the storage area to the torch area.
• Perform normal daily operation maintenance: refueling, lubrication, cooling system cleaning, and housekeeping.
• Clean up work area at the end of shift.
• Keep work areas neat and orderly.
• Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
• Organize materials to make effective use of space.
• Dispose of various waste materials in the appropriate manner.
• Inspect to ensure cleanup is completed.
• Maintain effective housekeeping in the workplace area for safety and better hygienic conditions for all team members.

• Must pass a medical physical and drug test.
• Must pass a background check and credit check.
• Preferred: high school diploma or GED and/or foreign education acceptable.
• Bi-lingual (English & Spanish) language skills a plus.
• Ability to communicate with others effectively; understand written or oral direction and use basic math skills as the job demands.
• Previous experience operating a forklift a plus.
