Position: Library ESOL Teacher (CLOSED)
$28 per hour (part-time, no benefits)
September through June (40 weeks - 19 hours per week)

Description:

Reporting to the Literacy Coordinator of the East Providence Libraries, the Teacher of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) provides instruction and educational services to learners of the English language and citizenship. The Library ESOL Teacher works 19 hours per week (9 hours direct instruction and 10 hours of preparation time and office hours) and collaborates with another teacher and a social worker.

The Library ESOL Teacher must be available to teach a minimum of two evenings per week.
Responsibilities:

Provides direct instruction and collaborative learning activities for adult learners, all on site.
Utilizes a student-centered approach to language learning.
Develops and employs curriculum based on principles of adult-learning.
Uses appropriate assessments to determine learner proficiency.
Collaborates with staff members to create appropriate programming.
Measures program goals and reports outcomes.
Other duties as required.

Experience:

Experience teaching groups of learners and supporting immigrant adults of diverse educational and cultural backgrounds.
Knowledge of adult-centered education techniques and strategies.
Cultural competency and knowledge of the community.
Experience employing a student-centered approach to teaching and learning.
Commitment to professional learning and a willingness to receive feedback.
Familiarity with the requirements and process of naturalization.
Personal experience as a language learning.
Multilingual.
Experience using productivity software (e.g. Microsoft Office, Google Workspace) and ability to teach basic technology skills
to adult English language learners.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college.
Training in ESOL, Education, or Language Acquisition.
