Job Description & How to Apply Below
The East Providence Recreation department is seeking a certified teacher to implement and oversee a summer learning curriculum during the department's summer camp program. The program will incorporate hands-on learning experiences, such as science experiments, arts and crafts, sports, and outdoor adventures. These activities not only keep children intellectually stimulated but also promote active learning and practical application of knowledge.
This consistent exposure to educational activities and lessons during the summer can help prevent learning regression. It keeps children engaged in learning and reinforces previously learned concepts, reducing the likelihood of forgetting or losing academic skills over the break. The Summer Learning Teacher will oversee and direct dedicated Enrichment Leaders and complete all program evaluations and participant data forms as required by the RI Department of Education.
The SLT reports directly to the Director of Recreation and Recreation Program Coordinator. The position hours are 25 hours per week during the East Providence Recreation's summer camp, June 24 - August 2, 2024, with pre and post program hours as needed. The summer camp is for ages 6-12 and takes place at the Pierce Memorial complex located at 201 Mercer Street in East Providence, RI.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree (BS) from a four-year College or University
Elementary Education Certified or Teacher Intern.
Experience with curriculum development, evaluation and working with school age learners.
As a condition of employment upon hire, applicants will be required to obtain a criminal background check inquiry (BCI) with the RI Attorney General's office.
Examination Weight: 100% ORAL
Final date to receive applications:
This position will remain open until filled
