Position Overview
Providence Country Day School, an independent PK‑12 school, seeks a dynamic, versatile educator for a part‑time history teaching role in the Upper School (potential for full‑time). The upper school history curriculum starts in the 9th grade with the OER Project – World History Project curriculum (), continues through Modern World History and U.S. History in 10th and 11th grades, and in the senior year includes AP Art History, AP U.S. Government, and a selection of trimester electives.
The role invites collaboration with a faculty team, advisory participation, and involvement in extracurricular activities such as club leadership and coaching.
The teacher will plan and deliver instruction for 9th and/or 10th grade history, incorporating diverse perspectives, creative and differentiated strategies, and forward‑thinking pedagogy. Responsibilities include teaching from the OER Project curriculum, contributing to department planning, serving as an advisor, and collaborating with colleagues across subjects. Students expect teachers to approach history from diverse perspectives in a creative, differentiated, forward‑thinking way and to be an integral component of their lives in classroom, department, and advisory settings.
QualificationsBachelor’s degree (or higher) required. Candidates must be competent with technology in education and use Google Classroom and the Google Education tools. Experience in project‑based learning, inquiry‑based learning, and differentiated instruction is desired. Candidates with versatility to teach other subjects such as world languages or English are strongly encouraged. Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with students, parents and faculty is essential.
