Long Term Substitute Elementary Teacher – Grade 2

Key Responsibilities

Be the educational leader in your classroom and demonstrate the necessary skills to create an atmosphere and environment favorable to learning and development.

Be responsible for the improvement and enrichment of instruction in the classroom.

Serve as a guidance teacher at all times.

Encourage child–parent–teacher communication to better promote instruction.

Earn the highest professional development possible through continuing teacher education programs.

Conscientiously apply yourself in following federal guidelines adopted by the Department for methods of instruction.

Cooperate with principal, department head, and fellow teachers on all academic matters, contributing to solutions of educational problems.

After identifying individual differences, adjust educational practices to meet these needs, calling on a specialist as needed.

Have the following responsibilities in relation to the testing program:

Ensure mental ability tests, achievement tests, and all other department‑authorized tests are administered in a prescribed, standardized manner.
Exercise professional discretion regarding test results and use them to improve classroom instruction.
Continuously improve the testing program by providing observations, constructive criticisms, and suggestions.

Attend all meetings called by principal/department head, contributing to discussions.

Associate with professional organizations related to your specific area of instruction or interest.

Collaborate with the school on programs that promote good public relations within the community.

Identify unusual talents early and encourage students to develop them.

Keep abreast of general educational practices across all grades (K‑12) in the school system.

Cooperate with the principal to complete inventories, budgets, library orders, and reports peculiar to the school.

Cultivate and promote good health habits—physical, mental, emotional—for yourself and your students.

Cooperate with special teachers in their programs of physical education, art, and music.

Encourage and participate in extracurricular activities that broaden student experiences.

Provide general classroom supervision and cooperate with the principal for additional supervision as needed.

Keep all prescribed school records in order.

Fulfill all fire drill requirements issued by the principal.

Enforce rules and regulations relating to school functions.

Give daily attention to safety education of pupils.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Clear understanding of blended and personalized learning theory, pedagogy, and practices; experience delivering professional development.
Previous coaching experience and proficiency with technology and K‑12 instructional technology.
Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills; willingness to learn and grow.
Perform duties professionally, thoroughly, in a timely manner, and with respectful, friendly demeanor.
Flexible and adaptable to a high‑energy, fluid environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree
3–5 years of experience preferred.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and problem‑solving skills.
Strong presentation and facilitation skills.
