Job Description BASIC FUNCTION

The Salve Regina University writing center is situated in the Academic Center for Excellence. The coordinator works closely with the Associate Director of the Academic Center for Excellence and the Director of Writing/Executive Director of Student Success & Retention to support and promote written communication campus-wide. This position closely collaborates with ACE colleagues and other student-oriented offices across campus including the Compass Center for Advising, Career & Life Design, McKillop Library, Student Employment, Student Affairs, among others.

The writing center coordinator’s primary responsibility is to oversee the day-today operations of the writing center. This position will also support the first-year writing program with a 1/1 instructional load.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of a vibrant writing center (over 1000 student interactions per semester)
  • Recruit, train and supervise general and embedded writing tutors; provide ongoing coaching, feedback and professional development support
  • Ensure accurate collection of data and consultation notes via Trac Cloud
  • Assess writing center programs and services
  • Team-teach with ACE colleagues 0/1 credit CRLA-certified tutor training workshops: ACE 090 (2 credits, fall), ACE 091 (1 credit, fall) & 092 (0-credit practicum, spring)
  • Teach one course a semester for the first-year writing program (WRT 102/103 or WRT 105).
  • Regularly collaborate with faculty to design, develop and implement innovative course-specific writing services, resources and programming to meet the University''s varied needs for writing support
  • Support the approval, design, and delivery of writing-enriched courses through workshops and faculty consultations
  • Represent the writing center and ACE at events for campus and prospective students
  • Remain current in the field of writing center studies
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • MA or MFA in Writing, Rhetoric and Composition, English, or related field at time of appointment
  • 1+ years of experience working in a college-level writing or tutoring center as a tutor or professional staff member
  • Record of success teaching first-year writing to students of diverse abilities, interests, and backgrounds
  • Comfort utilizing instructional technologies (e.g. Canvas, Perusall) and tutoring management software (e.g. Trac Cloud)
  • Demonstrated investment in student social and linguistic justice, diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility
  • Proven experience proactively collaborating with campus stakeholders to holistically support student learning
  • Excellent communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 2+ years of experience leading an academic support program (e.g. writing center, supplemental instruction, academic coaching, peer education, etc.)
  • 2+ years of experience collecting and analyzing program data and assessing writing center services
