CLASS

DESCRIPTION:

Under the direction of the Pupil Personnel the Early Childhood Coordinator shall assist in overseeing all district preschool referral, eligibility and placement of children identified or suspected of having a disability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Demonstrates and applies up-to-date knowledge of Early Childhood Education and RIDE regulatory mandates as they pertain to preschool special education requirements.
  • Administer screening in all content areas and handle difficult screening situations.
  • Serve as district screening liaison to families during the screening process and possess the knowledge and skills necessary to discuss special education referral process, resources and programs in the community, child development, in general, their child’s development, in particular as well as opportunities for family involvement.
  • Communicate effectively with parents.
  • Act as a liaison between the East Providence School Department and Early Intervention sites as needed.
  • Attend RIDE Child Outreach coordinators’ meetings for purposes of representing the East Providence School Department.
  • Communicate with Early Childhood and related service staff regarding Evaluation Team meetings and IEP and parent conferences as needed.
  • Provide information and clarification to staff regarding Early Childhood Outcomes (TSG), Early Intervention Transitions and Early Childhood Environments (LRE).
  • Update class lists on a monthly basis.
  • Generate class lists for all students entering Kindergarten.
  • Act as LEA for student IEP meetings as needed.
  • Document, maintain and compile student information as required and appropriate for record keeping pertaining to referral, evaluation, team meetings and IEP meetings as needed.
  • Assist the district in compiling reports/documents as needed.
  • Assist in public presentations as they pertain to Early Childhood programs and services.
  • Coordinate and oversee Child Outreach screening, supervise and train outreach screeners, update student screening list as needed, facilitate screenings in elementary and private schools and provide written results of screenings to parents and school department.
  • Assist the district in identifying children eligible for Extended School Year Services and recommend appropriate programming.
  • Coordinate and oversee Child Outreach screening.

  • Update student screen list as needed
  • Facilitate screenings in the elementary schools and private schools
  • Communicate with families, by letter, the results of screenings
  • Develop a system of record keeping inclusive of all student screenings inclusive of all correspondence
  • Oversee re-screens as needed (4-6 weeks following initial screening)
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Working knowledge of district and school rules, state and federal regulations, and policies applicable to area of assignment.

Ability to work effectively with district personnel, administrators, staff, parents, outside agencies, other school districts, and the community in a confidential manner.

Must be highly detailed and organized.

Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from manager to accomplish objectives.

Proficiency with email and Microsoft Office, Excel, and Google Docs.

Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance creativity, problem solving, and results.
