CLASS DESCRIPTION
The role of the Assistant Principal is to assist the Principals with the following duties:
- The Assistant Principal will assist the Principal to:
- Manage all building staff
- Provide general supervision of students
- Schedule teachers and students
- Create a master schedule to effectively utilize available resources.
- Facilitate in-service training/professional development for staff
- Supervise extra-curricular activities
- Create and encourage a building vision.
- Direct the staff in addressing the needs of all students through differentiated instruction.
- Establish priorities for educational materials to meet the needs of students and prepare and help prepare the budget
- Evaluate personnel
- Improve student attendance working with a school attendance team.
- Participate on SIT, MTSS, Faculty Advisory or other committees as necessary
As directed by the Principal, the Assistant Principal:
- Manages the physical plant in terms of safety and welfare of students and staff.
- Resolves staff problems and provide support to teachers
- Maintains the discipline and morale of students by carrying out the provisions of the Student Rights and Responsibilities in a consistent and fair manner
- Utilizes the parameters of all negotiated contracts
- Evaluates performance and effectiveness of programs and staff
- Interacts with students in a constructive manner to encourage each individual to perform at their highest level.
- Possesses strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize a multitude of tasks.
- Maintains relations with parents, parent groups, and school volunteers and outside agencies.
- Participates in district-wide activities, in-services and committees, as appropriate.
- Implements policy and procedure changes from the Board, or the State and Federal level at the building level.
- Continually monitors student achievement
- Maintains current educational/administrative certificate by meeting required course work under Act 45.
- Provides instructional and curricular leadership through the development of appropriate programs and expectations outlined in the School Improvement Plan..
- Ensure quality instruction is taking place in all classrooms as outlined in the School Improvement Plan.
- Other duties as assigned by the Principal.
- Keep current on state (RIDE) directives/mandates/ initiatives and or federal changes that impact education.
KNOWLEDGE,
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Working knowledge of district and school rules, regulations, and policies applicable to area of assignment.
- Knowledge of research/trends and issues in education.
- Ability to work effectively with district personnel, administrators, staff, parents, outside agencies, other school districts, and the community.
- Ability and experience with proven management and team building skills.
- Strong record of helping students achieve and sustain academic success.
- Skills in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques and coordination of people and resources.
- Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
- Keen ability to use data in the decision making process and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to continuously elevate professional contributions through ongoing reflection, building upon previous learning, and being open and receptive to ongoing feedback.
- Ability to communicate and understand information and ideas effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to learn and proficiently use various school-related systems and databases.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize work to meet time sensitive deadlines.
