Job Summary:Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Facilities and Equipment Technician is responsible for supporting the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of production equipment, tooling, and building systems. This position performs hands on technical work to help maintain safe, efficient, and reliable operations.
The technician will work closely with engineering, operations, quality, maintenance personnel, contractors, and vendors to support production equipment and facility needs.
Responsibilities:Equipment and Tooling Support
- Build, modify, repair, and maintain production equipment, tooling, jigs, and fixtures.
- Assist engineers with equipment improvements related to performance, safety, quality, and ergonomics.
- Fabricate or assemble components using approved drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
- Assist with the creation and updating of basic CAD drawings and equipment documentation.
- Verify that tooling and fixtures operate correctly before release to production.
- Support facility upgrades, equipment moves, utility connections, and production layout changes.
- Coordinate daily activities with contractors, vendors, and maintenance personnel as directed.
- Perform routine inspections of facility systems and report unsafe or abnormal conditions.
- Support compliance with company facilities, environmental, health, and safety requirements.
- Assist with basic repairs involving lighting, plumbing, compressed air, ventilation, and other building systems.
- Research and sourcing of outside contractors.
- Build and install fixtures used for testing, assembly, inspection, and production activities.
- Inspect fixtures for durability, accuracy, repeatability, and ease of use.
- Perform adjustments and repairs to fixtures based on production feedback.
- Support the installation and integration of fixtures into production work areas.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on production equipment, tooling, and facility systems.
- Complete maintenance work orders accurately and on time.
- Document maintenance activities, repairs, parts used, and equipment condition in UpKeep or an equivalent maintenance system.
- Participate in weekly maintenance reviews and communicate equipment concerns or overdue activities.
- Identify opportunities to improve preventive maintenance instructions and schedules.
- Maintain an organized inventory of critical spare parts, equipment components, and tooling.
- Notify engineering, operations, or procurement when replacement parts or supplies are needed.
- Assist with the installation, alignment, setup, and commissioning of new or relocated equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and basic control system issues.
- Use appropriate hand tools, power tools, meters, gauges, and diagnostic equipment.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns and production support requests in a timely manner.
- Assist engineers with root cause investigations and corrective actions for recurring equipment issues.
- Escalate complex equipment problems when additional engineering or vendor support is required.
- Research and assist in the purchasing of replacement equipment or components.
- Assist with training operators and maintenance personnel on basic equipment operation, inspection, and preventive maintenance activities.
- Follow approved procedures, work instructions, drawings, and safety requirements.
- Maintain accurate equipment records, maintenance logs, manuals, and technical documentation.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Travel to the company's Sanford, Maine facility approximately three to five days per month to support equipment maintenance, repairs, installations, preventive maintenance, and facility projects.
- Coordinate with personnel at both the East Providence and Sanford locations to ensure equipment and facility needs are addressed.
- Travel frequency may vary based on operational requirements, equipment issues, and project schedules.
