- East Providence, RI Our client is a growing provider of residential home comfort services, delivering heating, cooling, plumbing, and energy-related solutions throughout the region. They are seeking a Master Technician – Residential HVAC/R & Pipe fitting to serve as a senior technical resource for complex residential heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
This role is responsible for advanced HVAC/R diagnostics and troubleshooting, precision installation, pipe fitting, brazing and soldering, system commissioning, complex repairs, and technical problem-solving. The Master Technician will work with residential HVAC/R equipment, refrigeration circuits, hydronic systems, electrical controls, airflow systems, refrigerant piping, copper piping, and related residential HVAC addition to hands-on technical work, this position serves as a point of escalation for complex service issues, provides technical guidance to other technicians and apprentices, and communicates directly with homeowners regarding system conditions, repair options, and recommendations.
- Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, electronic, refrigeration, and airflow problems.
- Troubleshoot residential HVAC/R systems, including heat pumps, gas furnaces, ductless mini-splits, zoning systems, and related equipment.
- Diagnose refrigeration-cycle problems and identify root causes.
- Perform refrigerant recovery, evacuation, charging, leak detection, and system testing.
- Evaluate HVAC system performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability and energy efficiency.
- Complete complex HVAC/R repairs and equipment replacements according to applicable requirements.
- Commission residential HVAC/R systems and verify proper operation following installation or repair.
- Layout, measure, fabricate, and install refrigerant piping and residential HVAC line sets.
- Install and modify copper piping, PVC drainage, and hydronic piping systems.
- Perform brazing and soldering of refrigeration and piping connections.
- Follow appropriate procedures for refrigerant-line preparation, joining, evacuation, and leak testing.
- Plan piping routes through residential structures while accounting for equipment location, access, drainage, airflow, and serviceability.
- Read and interpret equipment documentation, mechanical drawings, blueprints, and HVAC system layouts.
- Complete required cutting, drilling, mounting, and structural access work associated with equipment and piping installation.
- Verify piping and system configurations before startup and commissioning.
- Serve as a technical escalation point for complex residential HVAC/R, refrigeration, and pipe fitting problems.
- Provide technical guidance and hands‑on mentorship to technicians and apprentices.
- Assist technicians with HVAC troubleshooting, complex service calls, and repair strategies.
- Review completed HVAC/R work for technical quality, safety, and compliance.
- Provide guidance on diagnostic procedures, equipment operation, installation practices, refrigeration systems, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Help establish consistent field practices for complex HVAC/R installations and repairs.
- Communicate technical findings directly to homeowners.
- Explain system conditions, repair requirements, and available solutions.
- Answer homeowner questions regarding HVAC/R equipment operation, maintenance, repairs, and system performance.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment at residential job sites.
- Follow applicable federal, state, and local HVAC/R, mechanical, environmental, and building requirements.
- Maintain compliance with refrigerant‑handling requirements and applicable OSHA safety practices.
- Follow safe procedures when working with refrigerants, electrical systems, combustion equipment, torches, piping, tools, and mechanical equipment.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment and job‑site safety procedures.
- Verify installations and repairs meet applicable manufacturer requirements and mechanical codes.
- Maintain accurate HVAC service and installation documentation.
