Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Conduct evaluations to assess intelligence and educational development of students.
- Prepare interpretive reports from social work assessment in a lucid style to other concerned professionals.
- Confers directly with administrators, teachers, parents and students regarding findings, and offers appropriate recommendations to benefit a student referred for a social work evaluation.
- Provides individual and/or group counseling to students in assigned buildings.
- Assists/consults teachers in developing more effective behavioral management programs in the classroom.
- Participate actively in case evaluation team conferences and offer constructive suggestions for assisting referred students.
- Contact and cooperate with personnel of medical and community agencies to seek services for the welfare of referred students.
- Conduct periodic re‑evaluation of students as needed and/or as requested.
- Maintain a confidential file of case records on all students who have been evaluated.
- Serve as a resource person concerning learning handicaps for teachers and other school personnel.
- Participate and/or assist in in‑service training programs for school personnel.
- Attend scheduled staff meetings and committee meetings as needed.
- Keep abreast of new developments in the field.
- Prepare and submit required reports concerning program of services to the Director of Pupil Personnel.
- Interpret the school social worker services to teachers and parents.
- Maintain a daily log of activities.
- Assist in developing and writing individualized educational programs (IEP) for students evaluated.
- Perform other related tasks as may be assigned.
- Master’s Degree in School Social Work from a regionally accredited institution.
- 5 years’ experience preferred.
- Completion of a RI approved program or an Out‑of‑State program for the preparation of Social Worker Support Professional that leads to a master’s degree in social work.
- Demonstration of meeting the Content Competencies as prescribed by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).
- Must have a Masters in Social Work, be Licensed as a Certified Social Worker by the RI Board of Registration for Social Workers.
- Must possess a high degree of tact, diplomacy and confidentiality.
- Must be detail‑oriented with good organizational skills.
- Must be proficient with computers.

- Member of the Crisis Intervention Teams
- Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments / Behavior Intervention Plans
- Conduct classroom observations
- Type, copy all reports/clerical work
- Pull and transport student files from central office to building‑based team meetings
- Conduct manifestation determinations
- Assist parents (Behavior management instruction, SPED info/education, referrals to community resources)

Applicants can attain certification by completing a state‑approved program for Educator Certification in another state within the last 5 years OR by demonstrating that they hold a currently valid full certificate in another state.
