Job Summary
The Vacuum Truck Operator must work in compliance with MER’s four core service lines (Emergency Response, Industrial and Marine Services, Facility Decontamination, and Site Remediation). Drivers must adhere to corporate and office policies, health and safety protocols, and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
Job Responsibilities- Execute field work in remediation and industrial maintenance projects under supervision.
- Drive for about 30% of the time and work onsite as part of a team. Drivers may perform Field Technician duties if required.
- Complete all job‑specific paperwork (Timesheets, Daily Work Reports, Driver’s Logs, Pre‑ and Post‑Vehicle Inspections, Daily Tailgate Safety Meeting Forms).
- Enforce project scope‑of‑work to maintain compliance with contract documents, schedules, and corporate policies.
- Work safely during all phases of job duties in the field.
- Perform tasks in spaces requiring squatting and crawling for extended periods.
- Follow directions; read, speak, and understand English; understand common danger placards, site safety plans.
- Safely drive and perform safety checks on all licensed vehicles.
- Operate vacuum trucks, vacuum trailers, turbo‑vac, roll‑off trucks, and hydro‑vac.
- Travel out of town for two weeks or more as required.
- Comply with company and client safety standards.
- Perform work year‑round in all weather conditions.
- Work in extreme environments (heat, cold, heights, hazardous chemicals, loud noises, dangerous equipment, long hours).
- Handle physical demands such as standing, walking, crouching, using hands, and lifting 50 pounds or more.
- Stay clean shaven at all times for respirator use.
- Operating a manual transmission effectively.
- High School Diploma or GED (equivalent reading, writing, and reasoning skills) and 2‑3 years operating vacuum trucks or similar equipment.
- Preferred: experience in emergency response, manual labor, construction, industrial cleaning.
- Valid Class “B” or “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements.
- Preferred: TWIC.
- Desired: OSHA 40‑HR HAZWOPER and Confined Space Entry certifications.
- Successful completion of pre‑employment background and substance screening, including employment verification, criminal and Motor Vehicle Record searches, and ongoing verifications throughout employment to maintain company policy compliance.
