Social Services Advisor

Role Description The Social Services Advisor is a full-time, on-site role based in East St. Louis, IL. This position provides direct support, guidance, and advocacy to individuals and families, helping them access social services, employment resources, housing assistance, and other community programs. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting client intake and needs assessments, developing service plans, making referrals to partner agencies, and maintaining accurate case records.

The Social Services Advisor collaborates with community organizations, local government, and internal teams to coordinate services and monitor client progress. The role also involves outreach, participation in community events, and contributing to program improvement through feedback and data collection.

Qualifications

• Experience in social services, case management, counseling, or community outreach, with the ability to support diverse, vulnerable populations.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills to build trust, explain resources clearly, and advocate effectively.
• Organizational and documentation skills, including maintaining confidential records, tracking client progress, and using basic office software.
• Knowledge of local social service systems, community resources, and public benefits, or the ability to learn them quickly.
• Ability to work collaboratively with community partners, multidisciplinary teams, and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and trauma-informed, culturally responsive practice.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, psychology, or a related field preferred.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., in social services, case management, or crisis intervention) and prior experience in the East St. Louis or St. Louis area are a plus.
