Job DescriptionUnder the general direction of the Director of Finance, the Supervisor of Transportation will ensure that students are picked up from and delivered to their homes in a timely manner that supports their educational needs. The Supervisor of Transportation will work with the contracted bus service and with bus monitors to ensure that transportation services are delivered in a safe, timely, cost-effective manner.
Qualifications- High School Diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred.
- Five years of paid, verifiable supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of Versa Trans transportation software and experience preparing safe, timely, cost-effective student bus routes.
- Experience preparing all set-ups, routing sequencing, student load parameters, and timing of bus routes relative to school start and end times.
- Experience with school transportation systems is preferred.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Computer programs including Word, Excel and graphing.
- Principles and practices of delivery of transportation services.
- Efficient scheduling of personnel.
- Versa Trans transportation software.
- Work effectively in a team environment with multiple stakeholders.
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Assess problems and generate and implement solutions that support safe efficient bus service.
- Strong organizational skills, using tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Coordinate and maintain all functions related to the optimal usage of Versa Trans routing system including set-ups, routing sequencing, student load parameters, and timing of bus routes relative to school start and end times.
- Work with Illinois Central School Bus Company to ensure safe and efficient delivery of services.
- Make regular reports to supervisor regarding the service received from Illinois Central School Bus Company.
- Coordinate field trip bus schedules and process payment transactions.
- Coordinate and respond to concerns from staff, administrators, Illinois Central School Bus Company, parents, and outside agencies regarding transportation services.
- Process purchase order requisitions for all extracurricular transportation services.
- Assist in the preparation of the Annual Claim for Transportation Reimbursement.
- Make recommendations to supervisor regarding transportation needs, requirements, and availability of bus service.
- Monitor the schedules of bus monitors to ensure required supervision of students.
- Perform other duties within the scope of the position as assigned by the supervisor.
Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, reading and writing, communicating with others, operating assigned equipment. Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include frequent standing and walking, occasional lifting up to 24 lbs.
