Tenure Track Assistant Professor of English

The Department of English at East Stroudsburg University invites applications for a full-time, Tenure Track Assistant Professor beginning August 2026. We are seeking candidates with a specialization and experience in teaching composition and professional writing courses. Secondary interest(s) in multimodal composition, digital rhetoric, cultural rhetorics, WAC, and WID are welcomed. This is an entry-level, tenure-track, nine-month appointment.

Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU's proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers, and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country's largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun.

Responsibilities:

* Carry a full teaching course load (4/4) per academic year with a primary focus on general education writing courses (e.g., composition, advanced composition, workplace writing, etc.). Opportunities to teach in additional areas may be available based on departmental needs and the instructor's interests and expertise.

* Contribute to the English Department's goal of diversifying its course offerings in professional writing.

* Advise students in majors and minors.

* Serve on departmental and university-wide committees.

* Maintain an active academic writing/research presence.

Qualifications:

* A Ph.D. in English, Rhetoric, Composition, or Technical Writing, or related field by the time of appointment.

* Teaching experience in composition, advanced composition, workplace writing, and/or other college-level professional writing courses is required.

* Active track record in scholarship and service related to composition, rhetoric, and/or professional writing.

* Preferred:

Experience with multilingual writers, curriculum development, and interdisciplinary programs.

* Preferred:
Approaches to rhetoric outside the Western and/or European tradition.
