Job Summary:

Provide data relevant to the shape, contour, gravitation, location, elevation, or dimension of land or land features on or near the earth's surface for engineering, staking, excavation, grading, utility, and sitework on a variety of construction project purposes.

Minimum Required

Skills and Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience surveying.
  • Must have working knowledge of survey methodology and equipment.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, and statistics.
  • Able to perform strenuous manual labor activities for the workday.
  • Hearing and speaking sufficient to answer phone and communication with employees and others.
  • Vision for reading and writing, to see clearly at all distances on construction sites, and at night.
  • Able to walk and climb around job sites and in and out of equipment where ground conditions and elevations are variable.
  • Able to kneel, crouch, bend.
  • Able to work in extreme weather, hot and cold.
  • Physical strength to carry and lift 60 pounds.
  • Reliable Transportation.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Perform all duties safely.
  • Safely operate equipment around coworkers, other working equipment, materials, open trenches, and other potential job site hazards. Ability to safely operate equipment to avoid damaging facilities or harming people surrounding the job site.
  • Perform conventional grade checking and layout from survey staking provided by others.
  • Operate GPS survey equipment to: calibrate jobsites for 3D modeling, ensure accuracy through daily control checks, set control for equipment accuracy checks, perform construction staking (excavation, grading, utility and sitework), routinely as-built survey all completed work, complete TOPO surveys for quantities, check grade, and gather relevant field data using clear notation within the data collector.
  • Ability to read and comprehend design drawings and specifications.
  • Maintain detailed and clear notes of field information as needed.
  • Assist with other construction related functions as needed.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Assist with downloading field data in the office.
  • Drive to and from job site.
  • Ensure proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Notify superintendent, foreman or safety director of any potential issues.
  • May assist with training or supervising others.
  • Working knowledge and experience with GPS machine control is preferred.
  • Excellent attendance and timeliness.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Other Desired

Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of Trimble GPS Equipment (TSC7, TSC3, Trimble Siteworks, Earthworks, SCS
    900, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of Trimble Business Center or similar drafting software.
  • Ability to upload and reduce field data in the office.
  • Experience with GPS guided machinery and how to operate.
Skills:
  • Accurate and proficient communication and teamwork with peers, operators, mechanics, and supervisors.
  • Excellent safety and reliability record.
  • Accurate recordkeeping.
  • Customer/Client focus reliance on integrity and honesty.
Work Hours:
  • Regular hours are typically day shift hours;
    Monday through Friday, up to 60 hours per week, depending on season.
  • Overtime may be required during the busy season.
  • Occasional Saturday and/or Sunday work, as assigned.
