Math Coach Position

One-Year Only Position (2026–2027 School Year)

Internal candidates who apply for and accept this position acknowledge that the role is temporary, and therefore will not retain eligibility for a continuing position.

General Description: The Math Instructional Coach serves as the foundational mechanism for professional learning and instructional improvement within the district. This role bridges the gap between pedagogical theory and classroom practice by modeling inquiry‑oriented teaching, co‑planning high‑quality tasks, and supporting teachers in analyzing student thinking. The coach collaborates with district leadership and school‑based teams to align instruction with a shared math vision, fostering a culture of productive struggle and student‑led discourse.

Responsibilities include building internal capacity for sustained improvement, mentoring teacher leaders, and using data to inform instructional shifts that promote high levels of student achievement.

Job Duties:

  • Instructional Support: Model lessons that incorporate Three Reads, student thinking and co‑plan tasks aligned with specific math learning goals.
  • Teacher Development: Support teachers in weekly teaching of Three Reads Instructional strategy, anticipating student misconceptions and analyzing student responses to inform instructional decisions.
  • Professional Learning: Facilitate sustained, high‑quality learning opportunities to help teachers shift toward inquiry‑oriented pedagogy.
  • Strategic Implementation: Focus coaching efforts on early adopters and priority grades to create visible, replicable models of effective instruction.
  • Leadership & Vision: Align coaching practices with the shared district math vision and participate in regional coaching networks to calibrate and grow.
  • Capacity Building: Mentor teachers to become instructional leaders and effective facilitators of math Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
  • Instructional Protection: Maintain a strict focus on instructional duties, remaining protected from non‑instructional tasks such as test coordination or intervention scheduling.
  • Data‑Driven Practice: Use multiple student data elements and classroom observations to modify coaching strategies and improve student learning outcomes.
  • Collaborative Practice: Exhibit collegial practices focused on improving instructional techniques and helping teachers persist through the uncertainty of new strategies.
  • Communication: Clearly communicate instructional goals and progress with district leadership, school administrators, and the broader school community.
  • Attendance: Excellent attendance and punctuality required.



Job Requirements and

Qualifications:

  • Certification: Possess a valid Washington State teaching certificate with an endorsement in Mathematics.
  • Expertise: Deep understanding of leading Eastmont teachers in understanding Three Reads Instructional routines, modeling of CRE, and facilitating adult learning principles.
  • Experience: Previous successful experience in teaching Eastmont staff the Three Reads Instructional routine required; and prior teacher‑leadership role preferred.
  • Professional Commitment: Evidence of commitment to the profession through participation in curriculum development, professional organizations, and continuing education.
  • Collaboration

    Skills:

    Proven ability to work effectively with peers within a Professional Learning Community (PLC).
  • Flexibility: Ability and willingness to work with students and staff as essential.
  • One Year Only: This position is for the 2026–2027 school year and is contingent upon funding. Continuation of the position will be re‑evaluated based on funding availability.
