Position OverviewUnder the supervision of the Region Construction & Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Mechanic 1 is a member of the Eastern Region maintenance team. This role involves coordinating and performing new construction, renovation, remodel, repair, inspection, and maintenance of State Park buildings, facilities, grounds, equipment, and vehicles across multiple park properties.
Duties- Perform general maintenance, repair, remodel, and alteration work on facilities, grounds, vehicles, and equipment.
- Execute preventative maintenance on park buildings and other facilities.
- Maintain and repair irrigation, plumbing, and sewage systems, and provide minor electrical repairs.
- Coordinate with management, staff, volunteers, and correctional crews during maintenance and repair projects.
- Maintain health and safety standards.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least two (2) years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work.
- Valid unrestricted driver’s license (except corrective lenses).
- First Aid & CPR certification obtained within 12 months of employment.
- Experience working at Washington State Parks or a similar parks and recreation entity.
- Entry‑level experience driving and operating a variety of vehicles and equipment.
- Experience leading or supervising lower‑level staff.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Excel, Word).
- Experience with hand and power tools.
- Regulatory Compliance and Safety – commitment to health and safety standards and building codes.
- Independent Judgment and Initiative – ability to work independently under general supervision, prioritize tasks, and solve problems.
- Attention to Detail – high‑quality workmanship, meticulous record‑keeping, and precise execution.
- Physical Dexterity and Stamina – capable of demanding manual labor in varied environments, including confined spaces.

All Maintenance Mechanic 1 employees are required to wear a uniform. Uniform stipends and items are provided throughout employment (shirts, jackets, safety vest, baseball cap).
Working ConditionsWork schedule:
10‑hour days, four (4) days a week, Monday‑Thursday (6 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.). Expect regular travel between parks and statewide for meetings, training, and field work. Overnight travel is expected 95% of the time.
Eligible for medical (including vision), dental, and basic life insurance. Retirement through the Washington Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). Paid holidays, personal leave, and sick leave. Work‑related stipends for uniform and equipment. Additional benefits such as paid leave, training, and other compensation are available.
