IC Engineering Technician

This position supports the Instrumentation and Regulation (I&R) Department by providing design review, support of specification development and overall support of I&R Facility instrumentation and controls. This individual will be expected to have a high level of knowledge of I&R facility systems that gather and transmit information to gas Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and include; actuated valves, transmitters, odorizers, flow switches, and associated PLC and DCS systems.

Working with related discipline engineers, department staff and contractors, the IC Engineering Tech will provide hands on support in the selection, installation, calibration, repair and maintenance of I&R facility-related equipment, to include Low Voltage DC wiring connections. Will utilize process knowledge to support the safe and reliable maintenance and selection of equipment. The IC Engineering Tech will be expected to work independently on work activities identified by management.

The individual will participate in the review of Issued for Construction (IFC) documents providing comments, markups and ensuring the system's requirements are met. The position is multi-faceted with responsibilities that will vary dependent on project or system needs. The IC Engineering Tech reports directly to the Area Work Center's I&R Supervisor and will be responsible for completing the annual instrumentation calibration plan.

Typical task breakdown:

• Participates in department and project meetings, staying informed of status and actively supporting technical needs as the department's instrumentation and controls subject matter expert.
• Support the company's I&R facilities as necessary to troubleshoot problems related to installed systems.
• Supports the development of new process and equipment procedures.
• Responsible for supporting the execution of projects related to system controls, new valve installations, facility computer systems, networks, instrumentation and other related projects.
• Tests and calibrates, to established industry standards, equipment such as pressure and temperature transmitters, valve positioners, pneumatic controller, electronic controllers, pressure and temperature switches and other process control equipment.
• Records equipment readings, interprets abnormal readings and alarms to take pre-designated corrective action including activation of emergency equipment and procedures.
• Performs equipment inspections to ensure that the equipment is safely maintained and operable; performs related testing and repair as needed.
• Calibrates electronic instrumentation, verifies and adjusts equipment tolerances and records results on calibration checklists.
• Will support commissioning activities as needed.

Travel Required:

YES - 50 percent Successful candidate will report to SFD/Easthampton, but will have the potential to travel as far as the towns surrounding Lawrence and Brockton.

Education & Experience

Required:

• Degree in electrical, computers, mechanical, chemical, process, petroleum, or other related engineering discipline, plus five (5) years work experience; OR
• Minimum of ten (10) years relevant work experience in instrumentation and controls maintenance and installation as related to gas system pressure management.
• Any hands-on experience with plumbing or HVAC controls is a plus

Technical

Skills:

• Experience with hands on work with instrument controls in low voltage applications.
• Must deal with short time frames and handle multiple competing priorities.
• Must be independently motivated and able to work without detailed direction.
• Must support on site activities, monitoring quality and providing feedback.
• Must have a strong ability to interpret drawings and other technical documents.
• Must have a strong understanding, as it relates to instrumentation and controls, of the technical principles of AC and DC power, hazardous area classifications, instrumentation, actuated valves, fiber optics, analog and digital controls and systems, and other engineering skills as they relate to process plants.
• Must be capable of performing field-related duties which may include, but are not limited to: climbing, walking on uneven surfaces and working during inclement weather conditions.
• Requires some written and oral communication skills, effectively interfacing with stakeholders.
• Basic skills with MS Office (Word/Excel)
