The Williston Northampton School, an independent coeducational boarding and day school located in Easthampton, MA, has a full‑time, calendar‑year opening for a Carpenter. The schedule for the position is Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week, with occasional special event coverage as necessary. Actual hours assigned per the needs of the department.
Job OverviewThe Carpenter constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures as needed to maintain and improve school facilities. The Carpenter also assists other trades and departments as needed to meet the requirements of the institution.
Responsibilities- Builds, repairs, and installs counters, cabinets, benches, partitions, floors, doors, building framework, and trim.
- Erects framework for structures (steel stud and wood framing) and lays subflooring materials.
- Lays hardwood, parquet, and other types of wood floors.
- Applies shock‑absorbing, sound‑deadening, and decorative materials to ceilings and walls.
- Fits and installs prefabricated window frames, doors, door frames, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim.
- Formulates and communicates proposals for potential construction projects that enhance, improve, or renovate any campus property or area.
- Coordinates and assists work with other tradesmen to minimize conflicts and ensure timely completion of assigned tasks.
- 5 to 7 years of experience, preferably in a similar environment, and the ability to work independently as well as part of the Facilities team.
- Strong organizational skills for multitasking and prioritizing responsibilities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to understand written and oral instruction.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills to interact successfully with diverse staff, faculty, students, and other constituents of the school.
- Successful completion of CORI, SORI, and fingerprint‑based background checks.
- Valid driver’s license.
