Preschool Paraprofessional - Class I Autism Cross Categorical Classroom
9 months/5 days per week/7 hours per day 8:30a.m.
- 3:30p.m. (working lunch) (subject to change per the needs of the building) Starting Hourly Rate of Pay: $18.23-$25.08 (will follow the salary schedule) Accepting internal applications through July 6, 2026.
Primary Duties:
- Assist student(s) to whom assigned in physical tasks as required (must be able to lift at least fifty pounds);
- Reinforce class rules when teacher is absent;
- Assist substitute teacher;
- Listen to student recitations, readings and other curriculum tasks;
- Work with small groups to reinforce materials/academics initially introduced by the teacher;
- Reinforce behavior management techniques;
- Accompany student(s) when trips to the office and/or school nurse are necessary;
- Serve as resource person, as requested, to the student evaluation team conferring about one of the students to whom assigned.
Bathroom duties, etc. and other duties as assigned per the needs of the students. Responsible for getting students to and from transportation.
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills This person must meet Step-up to Quality & Preschool licensing requirements, including medical form and required professional development. Must be able to follow instructions and project positive reinforcement; work well with others; relate to and work well with students; communicate with students, staff and the public, both individually and in group situations; good verbal and written skills desired;
be able to improvise in difficult and/or unusual situations and be able to function under stress. Good verbal and written skills desired.
Characteristics/Traits Must maintain a neat, well-groomed appearance; have control over emotions; be self-motivated, punctual, dependable in attendance, reliable in work habits, and be task oriented; exercise discretion and good judgment; be in good physical and mental health; be of good moral character; and be able to derive some degree of satisfaction interacting with students.
Education/Training The Ohio Department of Education requires a one-year Educational Aide permit. Applicants must also meet one State of Ohio requirement:
Have passed the Para Pro Assessment Test, hold an Associate's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university, or have completed at least 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours at an accredited college or university. Experience Previous experience in special education preferred.
