Assistant Professor Of Aviation And Air Traffic Control Specialist

Middle Georgia State University (MGA) is seeking a candidate for an Assistant Professor of Aviation and Air Traffic Control Specialist in the Department of Aviation Science and Management. This full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position includes a teaching load of undergraduate air traffic control courses, classroom instruction, and air traffic control tower and en route simulation training. In addition, the position is responsible for supporting and overseeing operations within the University's ATC tower, ensuring safe and effective training environments, operational compliance, and student development.

Teaching Responsibilities
- Teach various aviation undergraduate courses (15 credit hours per semester) in areas to include but not limited to Air Traffic Control. Advise and mentor aviation students on academic and career aspirations. Develop course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, tests, and lab projects. Construct training aids and mock-ups. Instruct Aviation Science and Management courses in both the labs and classroom Evaluate student achievement and competence Collaborate with faculty and occupational advisory committee Be willing to learn and use D2L, our online teaching and learning platform Participate in institutional service through committee assignments and university initiatives.

Engage in scholarly activity, research, and other professional development activities related to the aviation discipline and/or the scholarship of teaching and learning. Administrative Duties
- Controls air traffic on and within vicinity of the airport according to established procedures and policies to prevent collisions and to minimize delays. Answers radio calls from arriving and departing aircraft and issues landing and take-off instructions and information. Transfers control of departing flights to, and accepts control of arriving flights from, air traffic control center. Alerts airport emergency crew and other designated personnel by radio or telephone when airplanes are having flight difficulties.

Controls airport floodlights and boundaries, runway, and hazard lights. Operates radio and monitors radars to control aircraft operating in vicinity of airport. Signals aircraft flying under visual flight rules, using electric signal light or flags. Performs related duties as assigned.

Required Educational Qualifications Masters
¿ s degree required with extensive experience in Air Traffic Control. Required Experience Demonstrated ability to teach and develop a broad array of aviation training courses FAA Control Tower Operator Certificate Current FAA class II medical/ability to obtain FAA Class II Medical Other Required Qualifications Extensive ATC Tower experience

Preferred Experience Prior experience teaching 5 Years of Air Traffic Control Experience Additional experience in en route, terminal, and/or flight service is a plus.

Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) enroute RADAR procedures. Knowledge of air traffic control procedures and principles. Knowledge of air traffic control equipment operations. Knowledge of computers and job-related software. Skill to make timely decisions. Skill in decision making and problem solving. Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public. Skill in oral and written communication.
