Summary

The Para educator is responsible for supporting teachers in creating engaging, inclusive, and well-organized learning environments that promote the growth of elementary students. Working under the direction of certified staff, the para educator provides instructional, organizational, and supervisory support while helping maintain a safe and productive classroom where every student can succeed.

Principal Accountabilities:
  • Assist teachers in implementing instructional activities for individual students, small groups, and the whole class.
  • Reinforce academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and organizational skills as directed by the classroom teacher.
  • Support student learning by providing instructional assistance during classroom lessons, centers, intervention groups, and enrichment activities.
  • Assist with classroom organization, preparation of instructional materials, technology, bulletin boards, displays, and classroom resources.
  • Help maintain a structured, safe, and positive classroom environment that promotes student engagement and appropriate behavior.
  • Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, lunch, recess, arrival, dismissal, field trips, and other school activities as assigned.
  • Support students in developing independence, responsibility, problem-solving, and positive social interactions.
  • Assist with student supervision and safety while maintaining high expectations for behavior and participation.
  • Collect observational information and communicate student progress or concerns to the classroom teacher.
  • Collaborate with teachers, specialists, interventionists, administrators, and other staff to support student success.
  • Assist with routine clerical duties including copying, organizing instructional materials, preparing classroom resources, and maintaining student records as assigned.
  • Maintain cooperative and respectful working relationships with students, families, and school personnel.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with FERPA and district policies.
  • Demonstrate professional work habits including punctuality, attendance, dependability, flexibility, and participation in required meetings and professional learning.
  • Model professionalism, ethical conduct, patience, and respect in all interactions with students, families, colleagues, and the community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or supervising teacher.
Certification, Knowledge and

Skills:

  • Associate's degree and one to three years of experience in education, child care, youth development, or a related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with elementary-aged students with diverse learning needs and backgrounds.
  • Ability to implement teacher-directed instructional strategies and classroom routines.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with students while encouraging independence and personal responsibility.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Physical ability to assist with classroom activities, supervise students, and perform duties associated with an active elementary school environment.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing professional learning and receive constructive feedback.
  • Understand that all work responsibilities are subject to performance goals established by the district.
