Position Summary
The Education Department invites applications for a full-time Professor of Practice in Elementary Education for the Fall 2026 academic year. The department seeks a dynamic educator with expertise in elementary education, specifically in the areas of literacy instruction, mathematics, science, and social studies, who can effectively prepare future teachers to implement evidence-based reading practices in diverse classroom settings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Teach undergraduate courses in Elementary Education, with a focus on reading instruction. literacy development, science, and social studies.
* Contribute to curriculum development and program initiatives aimed at strengthening the curriculum across elementary grade levels (Grades 1-6).
* Collaborate with faculty and local school partners to enhance field-based learning experiences for teacher candidates.
* Undergraduate student assistance, including academic advising.
* Participate in curriculum review and development, program reviews, and student outcomes assessment. Includes activities related to accreditation by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and other governing agencies.
* Attend college functions, including commencement, convocation, and faculty, committee, and departmental meetings.
* Utilization of technology in teaching, including college student monitoring and data systems.
Education and/or Experience
* The successful candidate must hold a doctorate in Education, along with knowledge and experience in the specialization of reading pedagogy, language development, science, and social studies curriculum.
* At least three years of successful teaching experience at the elementary level.
* Experience developing curriculum and course material inclusive of underrepresented groups is preferred.
* Ability to teach courses related to the application of assessment results to classroom settings is preferred.
* Ability to integrate appropriate technology and software in teaching.
Preferred Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Physical Demands Work Environment Licenses/Certifications
A Massachusetts Elementary Education Licensure is preferred.
