The Director of Operations is a key member of the senior leadership team and is responsible for the overall operational performance of the company. This position provides leadership and accountability across project management, field operations, manpower planning, procurement, safety, quality, and project execution.
You’ll be working closely with the General Manager, Estimating, Project Management, and Field Leadership, the Director of Operations ensures that projects are properly planned, staffed, scheduled, executed, and completed safely and profitably.

- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in electrical construction or related commercial/industrial construction operations.
- Demonstrated experience leading multiple construction projects and operational teams.
- Strong knowledge of electrical construction, project management, scheduling, estimating, labor productivity, procurement, and cost control.
- Demonstrated understanding of project financials, forecasting, change orders, contracts, and risk management.
- Experience leading and developing Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and field personnel.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent industry experience will be considered.
- Direct the day-to-day operations of the company's construction activities and provide leadership to Project Managers, Superintendents, General Foremen, and other operational personnel.
- Establish clear operating priorities, expectations, accountability, and performance standards.
- Oversee project execution from turnover through completion, ensuring projects are adequately staffed, scheduled, resourced, and managed.
- Review project performance regularly and intervene early when projects are experiencing financial, schedule, labor, safety, or customer issues.
- Establish consistent project turnover, planning, scheduling, and closeout processes.
- Ensure effective communication between estimating, project management, field operations, purchasing, finance, and safety.
- Identify operational inefficiencies and implement practical improvements that increase productivity and profitability.
- Maintain accountability for operational and project financial performance.
- Partner with the GM/Controller and Project Managers to monitor budgets, labor costs, productivity, committed costs, forecasts, and projected final costs.
- Review work-in-progress and project forecasts to identify financial risks.
- Establish corrective action plans for underperforming projects and monitor results.
- Improve labor productivity, material utilization, equipment efficiency, and overall project profitability.
- Participate in annual budgeting, forecasting, strategic planning, and operational goal setting.
- Ensure lessons learned from completed projects are incorporated into future estimating and operations.
- Develop manpower plans based on current backlog, upcoming work, project schedules, and anticipated business growth.
- Ensure the company maintains the appropriate level and mix of electricians, foremen, apprentices, and support personnel.
- Coordinate workforce allocation between projects to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
- Partner with Human Resources and field leadership on recruiting, retention, training, and employee development.
- Champion a company-wide culture of safety and operational accountability.
- Partner with the Safety Department to ensure compliance with OSHA requirements, company policies, and project-specific safety standards.
- Hold operational leaders accountable for safety performance.
- Establish and maintain consistent quality-control standards.
- Reduce rework, callbacks, warranty costs, and preventable deficiencies.
