Senior Accountant

Full-Time | On-Site | Easton, PA

About the role
With roots dating back to 1939, Famous Smoke Shop-PA, Inc. and Cigar Works, LLC, doing business as Famous Cigars, is seeking a Senior Accountant who can take ownership of assigned accounting areas, investigate discrepancies, and help our team deliver accurate, timely financial results. Our business includes e-commerce, retail, inventory, and restaurant and bar operations, giving you the opportunity to work with a broad range of transactions and operational teams.

In this role, you will lead assigned portions of the close process, prepare and review reconciliations and journal entries, and help strengthen accounting procedures and internal controls. This is a senior individual contributor position with responsibility for providing technical guidance and reviewing work completed by less experienced accounting staff.

What you will do

  • Own assigned general ledger accounts and monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities; complete work accurately and on schedule.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, reclassifications, adjusting entries, and balance-sheet reconciliations.
  • Review reconciliations and supporting work papers prepared by junior and staff accountants, providing clear feedback and guidance.
  • Analyze financial results, investigate significant variances, and prepare schedules and analyses that support financial statements and management reporting.
  • Maintain and review schedules for prepaid expenses, accruals, fixed assets, inventory, and other balance-sheet accounts.
  • Support inventory reconciliations, reserve analysis, revenue analysis, and cost-of-sales analysis within assigned areas.
  • Review cash, credit-card, payment-processor, and sales reconciliations across e-commerce, retail, and restaurant and bar operations.
  • Research differences between the general ledger, operating systems, and third-party platforms; coordinate with the appropriate teams to resolve them.
  • Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, sales and excise tax accounting, audits, and requests from external accountants and tax advisors.
  • Improve accounting procedures and internal controls, support ERP and reporting projects, and assist with other accounting analyses and projects as needed.

What you will bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred. A CPA designation or progress toward CPA certification is a plus.
  • Approximately four to five years of progressive accounting experience, including general ledger accounting and month-end and year-end close. Candidates with additional relevant experience are welcome.
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), with experience preparing and reviewing journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Strong Excel skills and experience using an ERP or accounting system.
  • Ability to work independently, investigate accounting issues, exercise sound judgment, and meet competing deadlines.
  • Clear communication, careful attention to detail, and the ability to explain accounting issues and protect confidential financial information.
  • Preferred experience
  • Net Suite or a similar ERP platform, plus advanced Excel formulas, pivot tables, and lookups.
  • Retail, e-commerce, distribution, hospitality, or another business with significant inventory.
  • Inventory accounting, multi-entity accounting, sales or excise tax, or experience mentoring and reviewing the work of other accountants.

Why this role
You will see how financial results connect to day-to-day business operations and have the opportunity to improve the processes behind those results. The position combines ownership of complex accounting work with collaboration across the business and guidance to developing accounting staff.

Benefits
Eligible employees have access to the following benefits:

  • Medical insurance with multiple plan options.
  • Dental and vision insurance.
  • Company-paid basic life and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance.
  • Company-paid short-term and long-term disability coverage.
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan with a company match, available after one year of service.
  • Optional employee-paid supplemental life, accident, critical illness, and hospital indemnity insurance.
